After Maya Forstater was fired from her job for transphobic statements, the Harry Potter author showed the woman support, which got social media very upset. In other words, J.K. Rowling is now in hot water as well, being accused of transphobia herself!
It all started with Rowling tweeting about the English researcher losing her job over transphobic posts.
Her tweet read: ‘Dress however you please. Call yourself whatever you’d like. Sleep with any consenting adult who will have you. Live your best life in peace and in security. But force women out of their jobs for saying that sex is real? #IStandWithMaya #ThisIsNotADrill.’
Her message of support was in response to a judge ruling yesterday that Forstater should be fired for some ‘offensive and exclusionary’ older tweets.
Even after the ruling, she unapologetically stated: ‘My belief … is that sex is a biological fact, and is immutable. There are two sexes, male and female. Men and boys are male. Women and girls are female. It is impossible to change sex. These were until very recently understood as basic facts of life by almost everyone.’
Seeing Rowling’s response, some fans made jokes such as suggesting that it must have been Dolores Umbridge, aka the Harry Potter series’ most hates character, tweeting instead of the author.
At the same time, however, some were outraged while others, who have been victims of transphobia, were heartbroken to hear her stance.

‘I grew up as a trans child reading your books as an escape. I would often pick out names from characters to give to myself, before I ever felt comfortable in who I was. This decision, to support people that hate me, and want to do me harm. It brings me to tears… Why. Why?’ someone wrote, obviously hurt their idol would say that about people like them.
