Raoul Jaime Orzabal de la Quintana, born on 22 August 1961, is a musician and singer/songwriter. He is best known as the lead vocalist of the enigmatic New Wave duo “Tears for Fears”.

Sources estimate Roland’s net worth to be over $20 million, amassed during his career in the music industry which commenced in the early 1980s. His assets include a large estate in Durham, England with an integrated recording studio, a house in Los Angeles, California, and a noteworthy collection of vintage electric guitars.

Roland Orzabal Net Worth $20 million

Roland was born in Havant, England, to parents Margaret and George Orzabal de la Quintana. He has 2 brothers, and they all moved to Bath shortly after his birth, where Ronald studied at the Culverhay School and met future bandmate Curt Smith at the age of 13. They became close due to their somewhat disjointed families, often hanging out to get away from home.

Roland’s music career began in the 1970s with the mod ska band, Graduate, which he co-founded with Curt. However, with their bandmates engaged in other projects, Graduate disbanded. In 1981, Roland and Curt formed the New Wave band Tears for Fears, releasing the highly popular hit song, “Mad World”. The first album achieved commercial success, reaching #1 in the UK Albums Chart, also obtaining Platinum status in the UK and Gold in the US. This marked the initiation of Roland’s accumulation of net worth and assets.

Tears for Fears’ success continued with the next two albums, “Songs from the Big Chair” and “Seeds of Love.” These albums consistently topped the charts in the UK and US, as well as reaching the Top 10 in European countries including Germany, Netherlands, Switzerland, and Sweden, and even in New Zealand. These albums produced hit singles such as “Shout” and “Everybody Wants to Rule The World”.

Roland’s style of writing lyrics has also earned him two Ivor Novello awards for Songwriting, and he was also awarded the Songwriter of the Year in 1986.

Although he found tremendous success in the music industry, Roland’s net worth can also be credited to many other sources. He is a music producer and co-produced Oleta Adams’ 1990 album “Circle of One”, which topped the charts in the UK and reached #20 in the US. Roland is also a novelist, having published a humor and satire e-book in 2014 titled “Sex Drugs & Opera: There’s Life After Rock ‘n’ Roll”, still available for purchase on Amazon today.

Personally, Roland married Caroline Johnston in 1982, and they have two sons, Raoul and Pascal. In terms of philanthropy, Roland actively participates in fundraising and causes for children’s health and well-being. Alongside Curt, the band performed at the FCC Charity ball to raise funds for underprivileged children. They also took part in the Andre Agassi Charitable Foundation’s 8th ‘Grand Slam for Children’ Fundraiser.
